This technique can be used to outline a finished drawing or create that perfect border for any object. There are many other uses, but this should help give you a general idea of what can be done.








OK, start with a basic object like the circle below.

Select the circle. Go to Object > Path > Offset Path... Now set the Offset Path to the settings below (you can play around with theses settings for varied results).

Don’t deselect the result!!! You should now have a circle that looks a little fatter. Now select black or any other color you might like. You should have something like the image below.

That’s it! You have created a separate border that you can change the color or add a gradient. Have fun and play around with the combinations.
